Terms of Use
Last updated: 1 November 2026
1 · What this is
Typecut is an iPhone app that transcribes what you record and lets you edit the video by editing its text. These terms are the agreement between you and Kira Hryb ("we", "us"), who publishes it.
Using the app means you accept them. If you do not, do not use the app.
2 · The licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Typecut on devices you own or control, under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/), which applies in full except where these terms are stricter.
You may not copy the app, take it apart to work out how it is made, rent it, sell it, or pass your licence on to somebody else.
3 · What you record is yours, and so is the responsibility for it
Your recordings, transcripts and edits belong to you. We claim nothing in them, and we cannot see them: everything stays on your iPhone except the sound sent to be transcribed, which is described in the Privacy Policy (typecut.app/privacy).
Recording other people is your responsibility. Where you are, the law may require everyone in a recording to agree to it before you make it, and it may require more before you publish it. You are the one who must know this and follow it. Do not use Typecut to record anybody who has not agreed to be recorded, and do not use it for anything unlawful.
4 · The transcription is made by a machine, and machines are wrong
The text comes from automatic speech recognition. It will sometimes be wrong — a word misheard, a name mangled, a speaker confused with another, a pause put in the wrong place.
Because the app cuts the video by the words, a mistake in the text can become a mistake in the edit. Watch what you export before you publish it. We do not promise the transcript is accurate, and we are not responsible for what you do on the strength of it.
Nothing in the app removes your own judgement from the loop: every cut is one you made or one you accepted on a review screen.
5 · Subscriptions
Transcription is sold by auto-renewing subscription through the App Store. There are three plans, and each includes a monthly allowance of transcription:
- Weekly: 20 hours a month, billed every week
- Monthly: 20 hours a month, billed every month
- Yearly: 15 hours a month, billed once a year — 180 hours over the year, but given a month at a time, not all at once
The price of each is the one the App Store shows, in your currency, before you confirm the purchase.
Every plan counts its hours by the month, whatever its billing period — on the weekly plan too — and the month is counted from the day you bought it, not from the first of the calendar month. Unused hours do not carry over to the next month. Your devices signed in to the same Apple Account share one allowance when iCloud Keychain is on; with it off, each device counts its own.
Recording, editing, captions, translation and export are free and not limited.
How they work, and these are Apple's rules rather than ours:
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically at the same price and for the same period unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period.
- You manage and cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Typecut, not in this app. We cannot cancel it for you.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal and does not refund the current period; you keep what you paid for until it ends. Refunds are Apple's to give: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- There is no free trial.
6 · The transcription limit
Transcription costs us money for every minute, which is why it has a limit while the rest of the app does not.
The length of a recording is set aside when its transcription starts, before anything is sent, and if there is not enough left you are told how much is missing and when your hours come back. What is counted is the length the transcription service actually transcribed. The hours set aside are given back if the transcription fails, if you stop it, if you delete the project before it finishes, or if no speech is found in the recording. A transcription that was made is counted even if it never reached your iPhone — if the app was closed while it was on its way, for example. The app tells you when that happened, and transcribing the recording again counts it again. The count starts again each month. Reaching the limit never costs you a recording: what you recorded is kept, untranscribed, and can be transcribed when your plan's next month starts, when you move to a plan with more room, or with hours bought once (section 7).
7 · Hours bought once
Besides a plan, hours of transcription can be bought once, in packs of 5, 10 or 30 hours, through the App Store, at the price it shows before you confirm. A pack does not renew.
They never expire. Nothing counts them down, and they are not lost at the end of a month.
They are spent after your plan's hours. A transcription takes the current month's hours first, and purchased hours only once those are gone.
They are spent only while you have a plan. Without a live subscription no transcription starts, whatever hours you bought; they are kept, not lost, and can be spent again once a plan is live.
Where they are kept. Purchased hours are counted by our server under the app's identifier (see the Privacy Policy). With iCloud Keychain on, your devices signed in to the same Apple Account share them. With it off, they stay with the device they were bought on, and a new device starts without them. Restore purchases does not bring hours back: Apple's restore returns subscriptions, not purchases that are used up.
A refund takes them back. If Apple refunds a pack, the hours it gave are removed. If some of them were already spent, what is left of them is removed and no more: the count never goes below zero, and a refund never takes hours from a later purchase or from your plan.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, and refunds are Apple's to give.
8 · What we do not promise
The app is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be free of faults, available without interruption, or fit for any particular purpose.
Transcription depends on a third party and on your connection, and may be unavailable — including in countries where that provider does not offer service. When it is unavailable the app says so, and everything that does not need it keeps working.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost recordings, lost work, lost income or any indirect loss. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.
9 · Ending it
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it; that deletes everything it stored on your iPhone. Hours you bought are kept by our server and are there again if you install the app on a device with the same identifier (section 7).
We may end this licence if you break these terms. Your statutory rights are not affected.
10 · Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a material change will be said in the app before it takes effect.
11 · Your rights as a consumer, and who to write to
Nothing in these terms takes away a protection the law of your own country gives you as a consumer.
